Unwind on Your Holiday with Peace of Mind

Ensuring a Secure Business Environment Amidst Constant Hacker Threats

Picture this: You're on a well-deserved vacation, but suddenly, there's an urgent work task that needs your attention right away, even from your current location.

This is a critical moment where you may become highly vulnerable to potential hackers and other unforeseen disasters.

Are you utilizing a secure connection? Are you working on your personal device or are you using a third-party computer?

At AXS Guard, we understand the importance of your security and peace of mind. That's why we're delighted to provide you with straightforward tips and effective solutions on how to maintain a safe working environment, even while you're away on vacation.

Beware of Public Wi-Fi Networks

Using public Wi-Fi networks comes with significant security risks. These networks are often unsecured, making them an attractive target for hackers. Even in hotels, the provided internet connection may not always be safe and reliable.

So, what can you do to stay safe?

  • First and foremost, it's crucial to verify the authenticity of the network you're connecting to. Hackers often create fake networks with names similar to legitimate ones, such as free Wi-Fi networks or names resembling public institutions or restaurants. These fraudulent networks are designed to intercept sensitive information like login credentials or company details.
  • Under no circumstances should you connect to a Wi-Fi network that doesn't require a password for access.
  • A safer and simple solution is to connect through your mobile phone. Since June 2017, roaming charges within the European Union have been eliminated, allowing you to surf the internet abroad without additional costs. You can connect your computer to your phone to access the internet securely.

Secure Your Connection with a VPN

Once you're securely connected to the internet, it is highly recommended to use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) for logging into your company network.

A VPN provides encryption for your data and establishes a secure and dedicated "tunnel" between your device and your business network. This means that any sensitive content is protected through encryption, making it inaccessible to hackers. It's important to ensure that you have the necessary permissions from your company to establish a VPN connection.

Additionally, always use a unique, one-time password when logging into the VPN. You can generate this password using an app or token. Strong authentication or MFA (multifactor authentication) provides an extra layer of security for accessing your network and applications, ensuring the highest level of protection.

Basic Measures for Enhanced Security

In addition to the aforementioned steps, there are some logical yet often overlooked aspects that are equally important to ensure your security:

  • Keep your computer and software up to date: Before you depart for your vacation, make sure to update your computer's operating system and software applications. Regular updates often include important security patches that address vulnerabilities.
  • Use a client-side firewall: Activate a software firewall on your computer to provide an additional layer of defense against unauthorized access. A firewall helps monitor and control incoming and outgoing network traffic, safeguarding your device from potential threats.
  • It is highly recommended to install endpoint protection software or, at the very least, an up-to-date antivirus program. These tools detect and prevent various types of malware, providing real-time protection against malicious software that could compromise your data.
  • Use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) whenever possible. MFA adds an extra level of security by requiring multiple forms of authentication, such as a password and a temporary code sent to your mobile device. Additionally, avoid using static passwords and opt for strong, unique passwords or consider using a password manager for added convenience and security.

Lastly:

It's important to prioritize and enjoy your holiday to the fullest. Remember to take time for yourself, relax, and recharge. Whenever possible, it is advisable to leave work tasks for when you return home.
